Celebrating 30 years as a North American subsidiary, HEULE Tool Corporation will host an open house and pig roast on Wednesday, April 25, 2018.
CEO Ulf Heule will be visiting the Loveland, OH facility, representing HEULE Werkzeug Ag in Balgach, Switzerland. Both Ulf and North American President Gary Brown have been at the forefront of HEULE’s expansion since Heule Werkzeug Ag first established the subsidiary to expand their sales of automated deburring and chamfering tools into North America.

In the first year of their establishment as a subsidiary, HEULE Tool Corporation did not make any sales, but in 1989 sold their first tools to General Motors- Hydromatic in Toledo, OH and Caterpillar in East Peoria, IL. Sales continued to climb as more high-volume manufacturers discovered how HEULE tools reduced production times and resulted in higher quality parts. Breaking into the aerospace market in 1994, HEULE now sells over 6,500 tools to aircraft manufacturers in North America.

HEULE moved their offices to Cincinnati, OH from West Plymouth, MI in 1993 and in 2015, moved into their current space in Loveland, OH, a much larger office and warehouse space which currently stocks over $1.3M in inventory of standard tools. 90% of orders are shipped within 24 hours to customers throughout North America in the automotive, aerospace/defense, heavy equipment, and medical industries.

HEULE will commemorate the 30th anniversary by hosting many of their valued sales agents, distributors, customers, vendors, and public officials at the open house event which will run from 11:30 am-6:00 pm on April 25th. More information
BIG KAISER Precision Tooling Celebrates 70-Year Anniversary

In 1948, the 25-year-old Heinz Kaiser decided to give up his permanent job and start his own business near Zurich, Switzerland. His vision was to advance the development of high-quality tools needed to keep pace with the increasing productivity of machine tool technology at that time.

Heinz Kaiser had clear goals in mind: modern tools, manufactured in his own workshop, meeting high requirements. That meant designing tools which were strong, well-balanced and capable of boring precise holes with high accuracy and surface quality. Over time, this commitment to ongoing research and development was enriched by decades of experience in the design, manufacture and application of efficient cutting solutions. The result was a complete range of CKB (KAB) tool and clamping systems for boring, milling, drilling, and external turning which are still widely used in industries around the world today.

Now a member of the BIG Daishowa Group of companies, BIG KAISER Precision Tooling continues to have an integral role in the company’s worldwide R & D and manufacturing strategy. The next generation of products developed in Switzerland delivers connectivity essential to today’s smart manufacturing environments. For example, the EWE Digital Boring Heads enable repeatable and highly precise cutting parameters (.0001" and finer) and connect to a smartphone or tablet app to configure, monitor and track historical adjustments for multiple tools.

It has been 70 years since Heinz Kaiser started his success story with strong will, much faith and a little bit of luck. Many things have changed in the world of manufacturing and technology, but the quality standards of BIG KAISER Precision Tooling are unchanged. We want to say thank you to our customers, friends and supporters over these 70 years.

BIG KAISER is a worldwide leader in high-precision tooling systems and solutions for the metalcutting industry that guarantee extreme accuracy and repeatability. Our products are of the utmost quality — manufactured with materials and craftsmanship that enable superior performance. As a member of the BIG DAISHOWA Group (Osaka, Japan), BIG KAISER has grown into a well-recognized global tooling provider, with manufacturing facilities in North America, Switzerland and Japan. In addition, BIG KAISER is the North American representative of Speroni tool measuring machines, Sphinx high performance drills, mptec measuring stands, Tekusa spindle cleaners and the UNILOCK zero-point workholding system by Innotool.

Introducing Proportional spool valve for larger volume flows
The spool valve is pilot operated by a new proportional pressure reducing valve. The main control spool can thus be controlled very precisely with a low hysteresis. The cost-optimized construction of the pilot control leads to a price reduction of the overall valve. The valve can be operated up to a volume flow of 200 l/min and a pressure of up to 350 bar. The nominal flow at a pressure drop of 10 bar is 90 l/min and can be sensitively controlled by a variable solenoid current. The valve is perfectly suitable for demanding applications, due to its high resolution, high volume flow and low hysteresis. The pilot operated valve is used where high volume flows have to be controlled. Due to the large flow range and the high stiffness of the actuation as a result of the pilot control, these valves are suitable for applications where fast acceleration and deceleration processes, high speeds and sensitive motion sequences are required. The applications are in the industrial and mobile hydraulics for smooth control of hydraulic actuations. The valve of nominal size NG10 is available as a 4/3- or also as a 4/2-way function with the designation WVPFA10. For the control, different controlling electronic devices are available, e.g. the SD7, the MD2 electronics, or the DSV or PD2 electronics that are mounted directly onto the valve. Further details can be found in data sheet 1.10-3500.

Recent Developments on Investment in the U.S.: President Blocks Broadcom-Qualcomm Under CFIUS, Citing National Security Concerns

Acting on a recommendation by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. (CFIUS), President Donald Trump has blocked Singapore-based Broadcom Ltd.’s proposed $117 billion hostile takeover bid of U.S.-based semiconductor and telecommunications company Qualcomm, Inc. It is the second time President Trump has blocked transactions utilizing CFIUS authority, with Broadcom-Qualcomm being only the fifth time a U.S. president has intervened since the creation of CFIUS over four decades ago.

The March 12, 2018, executive order should be significant news for any non-U.S. owner, investor or controller of a U.S. business or technology. More information on CFIUS risk in potential transactions and other trade developments can be found at:

The DOL Just Flipped Its Position on Paying Interns
Late last week, the DOL effectively revamped the standards for unpaid interns, reversing a rule that had been in place since 2010 and giving private, for-profit employers whiplash.

The FLSA does not define “intern.” However, “[a] person whose work serves only his own interest” is not considered to be “an employee of another person who gives him aid and instruction.” Walling v. Portland Terminal Co., 330 U.S. 148, 152 (1947). Full analysis can be found at:

LNS Doesn’t Make Machine Tools.
We Just Make Them More Productive.

That headline pretty well sums up our role in the world of manufacturing: We design, build and support a wide variety of machine-tool peripherals that help optimize machine tool performance. We also provide applications expertise and, thanks to our close ties with every major OEM, make certain that your LNS products work seamlessly with virtually all CNC machines.

We’ve focused on becoming the “One-Stop-Shop” for machine-tool peripherals for more than a decade because we recognize that our customers are taking a more strategic view when addressing manufacturing issues. At one time, the solution for improving productivity was often to simply replace older machine tools with newer models that promised faster speeds and speed rates. Today, in addition to adding high performing machine tools and machining centers, our customers consider the overall manufacturing process including:
  • Loading bar stock
  • Unloading machined parts
  • Applying high pressure coolant precisely as needed
  • Managing a variety of chip types and materials to prevent bottlenecks
  • Extending coolant life
  • Supporting work pieces and bar stock to reduce vibrations and allow the machine tool to operate at peak efficiency
  • Enabling Ethernet communications between the machine tool and peripherals to reduce material waste and prevent production interruptions
  • Improving worker health, safety and productivity by eliminating harmful oil mist, airborne oil and debris and more
That’s why LNS provides the industry’s broadest and most advanced assortment of bar feeders, chip conveyors, mist collectors, and workholding systems, supported by unmatched applications assistance, customer support and technical service worldwide from more than 800 dedicated employees. LNS is truly your one-stop-shop for machine tool peripherals.
