BIG KAISER Presents Annual Donation to NRL
During NTMA’s annual meeting in Tucson, Chris Kaiser, president/CEO of BIG KAISER, presented a donation for $6,675 to benefit the NTMA’s National Robotics League (NRL). This was an increase of more than 27 percent over the prior year.

The donation was the result of a year-end promotion, giving back to the association a percentage of every order by an NTMA or AMT member company. Manufacturers placed orders for cutting tools, tool holders, work holding and tool measurement systems, earning funds for the NRL at the same time.

“We all know it is critical for us to engage the next generation in manufacturing at the company, community and national levels,” explains Mr. Kaiser. “This year-end promotion is one way for BIG KAISER to show support for the NTMA and to promote workforce development and STEM programs.”

“The NRL is all about the community collaborating together to engage manufacturing's next generation. We truly appreciate BIG KAISER's generous contribution and their continued leadership in supporting initiatives to close the manufacturing skills gap,” said Bill Padnos, NTMA workforce development manager. “We are also grateful to all of the NTMA members who participated in this program.”

The NRL is a manufacturing workforce development program of the National Tooling & Machining Association (NTMA) where students design and build remote-controlled robots (Bots) to face-off in a gladiator-style competition. Through the manufacturing process of Bot building, students’ imaginations are captured as they design, build and compete with their own robotic creations.

 Fracht: A Future of Growth

Aid & Relief
In early February, Fracht had the opportunity to be a part of a GRV Globals’s Action on Disaster Relief forum in San Jose, Costa Rica. Fracht representatives Lupita McGregor & Walter Groeli were able to network with others in attendance and discussed the topic of logistics at a round table discussion. They brought their knowledge and expertise of logistics to the table, while simultaneously learning about the other facts of logistics within the disaster relief industry. This forum exposed the amount of moving parts involved in disaster relief and what it takes to really combat and help in these cases.

SO WHAT’S NEXT FOR FRACHT IN THE WORLD OF AID & RELIEF?
We feel that we have only reaped benefits from this forum. The next steps are to follow up and make sure that the investment and dedication Fracht has to Aid&Relief is known to the public. The area of aid and relief is not only a way to grow business and relationships with other industries, but more importantly - it is a way for Fracht to be a part of something great, and truly give back to the world and those in need!

THE COMING US-MEXICO-CANADA AGREEMENT
In the coming weeks, the Trump Administration will submit legislation to Congress to implement the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), designed to replace the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Although the USMCA carries over a number of NAFTA’s important market-opening elements, it also introduces a number of changes that carry potentially significant implications for business planning across many sectors.

The USMCA includes new rules to promote and protect trade in cutting-edge commercial areas such as digital trade and advanced pharmaceuticals. It also generally incorporates the latest approaches from recent US trade agreements on regulatory policies, labor standards, and environmental protection and conservation to promote competitive markets and avoid a “race to the bottom.”  However, the USMCA departs from past trade agreements in that it limits the potential for binding and enforceable dispute settlement decisions, and instead moves toward the use of US trade laws and economic leverage to promote compliance.

Steptoe & Johnson LLP has prepared this helpful guide to the USMCA.

In more than 100 years of practice, Steptoe has earned an international reputation for vigorous representation of clients before governmental agencies, successful advocacy in litigation and arbitration, and creative and practical advice in structuring business transactions. Steptoe has more than 500 lawyers and other professional staff across offices in Beijing, Brussels, Chicago, London, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Washington.

If you have questions about the USMCA or Steptoe’s capabilities, contact SABC board member Will Turner. Will has more than 20 years’ experience advising domestic and international companies in a wide range of industries on U.S. commercial and transactional matters.

For years now, NGL has been one of the leading suppliers of cleaning and decoating chemicals for PVD/CVD applications. The development of a dedicated range of products for cleaning, the Vacukleen Line, has put NGL in a position of technological leader worldwide.
NGL has also been focusing these past few years on the improvement of working safety for decoating operations, and has developed Uniceral 208 in substitution of Uniceral 108 and Ceraltin 211 in substitution of Ceraltin 111:
  • Uniceral 208 is especially suitable for decoating cutting, milling and hobbing tools with titanium- and Aluminum-based PVD/CVD coatings on carbide and HSS substrates but also on different other substrates.
  • Ceraltin 211 is especially suitable for decoating cutting, milling and hobbing tools with silicon- and Aluminum-based PVD/CVD coatings, on carbide substrates but also on different other substrates.
Uniceral 208 shows strong benefits compared to Uniceral 108 or any other chemical decoating solution available:
  • Reduction of hydrogen fluoride gas by at least 75%
  • Decrease of condensate build-up to nearly 100%
  • Low risk of cobalt leaching
Ceraltin 211 shows strong benefits compared to Ceraltin 111:
  • Massive reduction of condensate build-up to nearly 100%
  • Considerable reduction of crystallization of condensate
  • Very important reduction of precipitation on the bottom of the decoating tank
  • Safer handling of the used bath
  • Low risk of cobalt leaching
