Thank you to Tornos for being the prime sponsor of this newsletter!
Tornos recently introduced the Swiss XT Range of machines at the EMO show in Hanover, Germany. The Swiss XT machines are designed to meet the ever increasing, high-precision needs of the medical, automotive, and hydraulic/pneumatic industry sectors. Tornos unveiled two models, the Swiss XT 16 and Swiss XT 32, accommodating 16mm and 32mm diameter bars, respectively. The Swiss XT machine platforms provide flexibility with up to eighteen live tools, including rotary tools for high-end operations. The machines entail a modular design for seamless integration of additional features, like plug-and-play B-axis.
Over the past year, Tornos U.S. have been actively working on building what is being referred to as Tornos 2.0, focusing on expanding the Sales, Applications, Service, and Customer Care departments. With Tornos’ proud 130+ year history, customer service is taking center stage in providing our customers the best service and support, ever. “We have nearly doubled our manpower over the past 15 months”, says Naiane Nunes, Tornos General Manager. Tornos is cooperating with a number of local colleges in an attempt to find top candidates for the new Tornos Swiss Academy. Service, applications, PM, and operator training are available for service technicians, distributors, and customers alike.
Tornos now offer two new variants of Multi-spindle machines, the MultiSwiss 8x26 and the MultiSwiss 6x32. Both have been designed based on the philosophy and technology which proved so successful on the MultiSwiss 6x14 and MultiSwiss 6x16 machines. The machines feature mobile spindles with Z axes, barrel indexing using torque motor technology, and a container housing all the peripherals required for machine operation. The footprint of the machines has been optimized. These machines mark a departure from conventional multi-spindle machines, providing the link between multi-spindle and single-spindle turning machines. The machines' on-board technology means they can deliver cycle times equal to those of cam-operated multi-spindle turning machines. One Tornos customer has realized the success of their 8X26mm MultiSwiss machine which they have proven can replace 5 single-spindle machines.

Röhlig Logistics expands its global network with the opening of a subsidiary in Canada
The owner-managed logistics company Röhlig Logistics has expanded its global network by opening a new subsidiary in Toronto, Canada, on 1 February 2024.
Hylton Gray, CEO Sea Freight, Air Freight, Contract Logistics & Sales and member of the Global Executive Board at Röhlig Logistics, says: “Canada is the world’s tenth largest economy, relying heavily on its abundant natural resources. Moreover, the nation boasts a thriving services sector, a well-established manufacturing industry, and a steadfast dedication to fostering innovation. Canada’s largest trading partner is the United States. Given the strong ties between the two countries, Röhlig Canada is affiliated with Röhlig USA under the responsibility of Rafael Ueltschi, CEO at Röhlig USA. “The opening of our Canadian subsidiary significantly strengthens our presence in North America. Toronto is an economic powerhouse and therefore an ideal starting point for our expansion into the country”, Ueltschi explains.

Global freight rates and schedules continue to be impacted by the Red Sea crisis. As the Houthi movement targets vessels associated with Israel and its allies, shipping companies have been slowed down by lengthy re routes around the Cape of Good Hope to avoid conflict. Rising costs have not reached pandemic levels, but congestion and price increases may persist for months, and widespread economic effects are possible. Worldwide air cargo continues to drop as week 1 of 2024 figures showed a 6% fall. Ex-Europe and North America both saw declines in 2Wo2W of -42% and -35%, respectively. Through shifting circumstances, American Lamprecht remains in close contact with agents and carriers, and we are committed to keeping our customers updated to minimize the crisis’s impact on the businesses we support. We will continue providing reliable, efficient, and cost-effective options for goods transport between Switzerland and the U.S.

Swiss Raclette from Maran in Graubuenden
RacletteCorner is offering raclette cheese from Alp Maran in Arosa, canton Graubuenden. Arosa has a special meaning to the RacletteCorner family. The owner’s mom grew up close to Arosa, worked there for a few years and has visited Alp Maran before. What better place to get Raclette cheese from?
Alp Maran, or as called in Switzerland, Sennerei Maran, is owned by the community and the farmers of Chur, the oldest alpine city in all of Switzerland. About 400 cows, the majority brown and the rest red ones, spend their summers on four Alps located just above the ski resort of Arosa, on altitudes of 5,500 feet and higher. On Maran, there are about 60 cows. The milk comes from Alp Maran and the three neighboring Alps Carmenna, Praetschli and Sattel, the latter three via milk pipeline. During the summer, master cheese maker Walter Niklaus and his team transform over 100,000 gallons of milk into wonderful cheeses and other delicacies. The raclette cheese is available in limited quantities starting in October of each year. We can offer this delicious raclette cheese here because RacletteCorner has teamed up with Adopt-an-Alp!

Milkboy Swiss Chocolates
Emanuel Schmerling, the founder of Milkboy Swiss Chocolates grew up in Zurich, Switzerland. He spent several years studying in New York in the 90’s where he met his wife. Shortly after their marriage, they moved back to Zurich, where he managed a family-owned business that exported Swiss chocolate and cheese.
During his frequent visits back to the States he noticed how difficult it was to attain authentic, high-quality, Swiss-manufactured chocolates.
He knew of a dairy, back in Switzerland, in the Emme-Valley (Emmental) that had produced quality Swiss cheeses for over a hundred years, under the “Milkboy” brand. At the turn of the century, they converted the dairy into a micro-brewery instead. After acquiring the brand, he saw an opportunity to rebrand Milkboy to create and market a unique chocolate product, inspired by the Milkboy story of the “Alp-Aufzug”, using traditional and iconic Swiss chocolate manufacturing processes to produce authentic Swiss chocolate without compromising quality.
“Milkboy Swiss Chocolates” was launched in 2015, focusing primarily on the US specialty food market. This coincided with his decision to move with his wife and their four Swiss born children to New York.
Milkboy Swiss Chocolates has grown in popularity and acclaim, winning several prestigious awards for their extraordinary tasting chocolates: Four Sofi Awards – the equivalent of the Oscar in the US gourmet food industry and five Great Taste Awards.
Today, Milkboy Swiss Chocolates can be found in specialty stores, on Amazon.com and directly on Milkboy.com.
Special offer for SABC members:
Milkboy Swiss Chocolates is offering an exclusive 10% discount code for members of the SABC on www.milkboy.com , valid until the end of March 31, 2024. Code: SABC10 or with this direct link: https://milkboy.com/discount/SABC
