SABC Winter Newsletter 2022

Thank you to the Swiss Benevolent Society of Chicago
for being the prime sponsor of this newsletter!
In 2022, the Swiss Benevolent Society celebrates its 150th Anniversary, and we are pleased that the Swiss American Business Council has enthusiastically agreed to support our events. From early on, Swiss-Americans in business, education, medicine, science, politics and the trades have supported the Society and, while focused on helping those in need, have also worked to build a stronger Swiss-American community on the shores of Lake Michigan. We are pleased that our local Swiss organizations join us in celebrating this historical event.

On Sunday, May 1st , we will gather at the Great Central Brewing Company to honor the legacy left by the Society’s first Board of Directors (represented professions: teachers, physicians, shopkeepers, carpenters, bankers, saloonkeepers, tailors, cigarmakers, opticians and a bookseller, who served as Swiss Consul General).

At our kick-off celebration, we will launch our own Swiss Beer, “Hop Swiss!”, which aims to memorialize an early Swiss contribution to Chicago – The Haas and Sulzer Brewery. This first commercial brewery was founded in 1833 by Swiss immigrant Andrew Sulzer and German William Haas. We are proud that we can use this special Swiss-Chicago connection to add to the city’s booming craft beer tradition.

We invite members and friends of the Swiss American Business Council to include a personal or business message in our 150th Anniversary Book publication and, likewise, to consider attending SBS sponsored events that will highlight both Swiss and SBS history. Access registration and other information at our new website! https://sbschicago.org/

Asia meets Europe

A TCM proverb says: “People under the apricot tree live for 1000 years.” But what happens when you eat its fruit, preferably in fermented form? Yasmin Stuffer-Hong found an answer to this question. Under the leadership of the family in the Far East, who owns this fermentation recipe inspired by an ancestral recipe from the Tang dynasty, developed the Share® fermented snacks and drinks product line, in which she combines Far Eastern tradition with Swiss expertise. During her travels to South-East Asia she discovered that peasant families there had been growing and processing Japanese apricots, also known as green plums, since the 18th century. She learned that the Japanese apricot, which has been fermented in its own fruit juice for over 30 months and is rich in microorganisms and enzymes, has been used as a medicinal fruit in China for over 1,500 years to strengthen the Qi, i.e. the vital energy in the digestive system.

Besides the herb-coated Japanese apricot ShareOriginal®, she also developed SharePomelozzini®, a delicately bitter fruity praline made from pomelo, rich in essential oils, and she also invented a refreshing drink made from fermented fruit and vegetables: ShareAquad’Oro®.

Yasmin develops its products with in-depth specialist knowledge, the greatest care and the greatest appreciation for its suppliers. It is important to her to leave the smallest possible ecological footprint. Share®-Products are distributed very successfully through alternative practitioners, pharmacies, health product stores and online shops in the US, EU and numerous other countries. The company’s goal is to share its products worldwide so its customers can experience “love, peace, and harmony”.

Lamprecht and American Lamprecht - A winning combination for Swiss to US Supply Chain Solutions

The global pandemic has caused continued disruptions to supply chains throughout the world.  Everyone is experiencing challenges with cost, timing, and availability. American Lamprecht is here to assist you with your freight forwarding and customs brokerage needs from Switzerland to the United States.

Recently, American Lamprecht has been winning business from large multinational logistics companies.  The reason is, these multinational companies cannot compete with American Lamprecht on service, options, price, and efficiency.

Beyond freight forwarding and customs brokerage:  Swiss and US resources

Lamprecht Transport, American Lamprecht's parent company in Switzerland, has extensive resources, personnel, warehouses, trucks, barges, and rail car facilities to accumulate, process, and ship goods to the United States.

These resources and established shipping lanes provide the most cost-effective and timely transit times from Europe.  Ocean, air, air consolidation, and ocean consolidation transport are all efficient, flexible options for moving goods. If you are moving machinery, spare parts, or other goods from Switzerland to North American markets, it’s beneficial working with an organization that specializes in this trade lane.

With 9 locations in the United States, American Lamprecht has the necessary geographic touchpoints to service all endpoint destinations.

PERIPHERAL VISION
For machine tool peripherals, it’s LNS, then all the rest.

Peripherals, by definition, are an outer boundary. But at LNS, that boundary is where we put our focus. Because here’s the secret—with LNS peripherals on their side, our customers are able to turn their attention to what they do best:  making chips and making money.  That’s why we do what we do.

Five product categories and industry-best expertise means no company on earth can match the passion and vision we have for machine tool peripherals.

We design, build, and stand behind every high-pressure coolant system, bar feeder, chip conveyor, steady rest system and mist collector we sell – we know every model inside and out, we stock replacement parts, and local support is just a phone call away

LNS offers 14 different bar feeders for fixed or sliding headstock machines that accommodate bar diameters from 0.8 mm to 120 mm, many with automatic or no-tool-required quick changeovers

LNS ChipBLASTER high pressure coolant systems provide precise high-pressure force to allow cutting tools to operate at higher speeds and reduce tool wear

eConnect Ethernet communications system that enables data exchange between CNC machine controls and peripherals to reduce material waste and speed production

LNS Turbo chip conveyors handle all chip and material types – models include magnetic and self-cleaning models that filter out 500, 250 or even 50-micron particles

All models of LNS Fox mist collectors exceed OSHA and NIOSH requirements, eliminating oil/coolant mist, smoke and other fine aerosols and particulates

Steady-rest based workholding systems are custom designed and built to address each specific machining application
