SABC Fall Newsletter 2022
PRESIDENT’S LETTER
To Our Members and Friends,
Fall is upon us and we are enjoying a few more nice days before the cold arrives permanently. I am pleased to report that our National Day celebration was successfully held at the Swissotel in Chicago on August 2nd.  We had a very good turnout and lovely views of the Chicago River and Lake Michigan. The event marked the SABC’s first in person event in over two years!

On September 13th, I had the wonderful opportunity to join Consul General Bruno Ryff and Deputy Consul General Joerg Oberschmied, and their colleagues from the Embassy of Switzerland in the USA, Swiss Business Hub and Swissmem at the International Manufacturing Technology Show which is held in Chicago every year. It was a pleasure to visit with and learn more about the Swiss companies in attendance and their products and services. When I have such opportunities, I always come away very impressed by the innovation and leading technology that Swiss companies are known for worldwide.

I ask you all to please save the date of Wednesday, December 7th, for the SABC’s Christmas Celebration and Fundraiser at the Peninsula Hotel in Chicago after a two year break due to the pandemic. I am looking forward to seeing you all in person once again to kick off the holiday season.  In addition to the wonderful food and drinks, we will be introducing the SABC’s new logo at the event as well.

Finally, I present to you the SABC’s Fall Newsletter for 2022.  I would like to extend my gratitude and thanks to our Executive Vice President, Sutha Heck, for her continued great work on behalf of the SABC and for producing this newsletter!

All the best,
Thomas W. Soseman, President

We welcome ESCO SA and Greg Mitchell, CEO of ESCO SA., as a new corporate member. For over 70 years, ESCO has been dedicated and specialized in the development, manufacturing of coil fed automatic and numerically controlled lathes used for the production of small diameter parts ranging from 0.30 to 8.00 mm.

Esco is ran by highly skilled, passionate, motivated local Swiss entrepreneurs and engineers in Les Geneveys sur Coffrane NE Switzerland.

Technological innovation surrounding CNC machining and motorised axes have enabled new developments to significantly increase the already well-recognised productivity of Esco S.A. machines.

The "escomatic principle" is an evolution of Swiss lathes that is a revolution in the world of manufacturing, this globally exported concept with the tools rotating around the manufactured part and feeding of the material from a coil stock, has been recognised for many years as extremely productive concept, the opportunity to work continuously 24/7 lights out and the saving of manpower is a winning formula for all ESCO customers.

In order to support the customer's quest for performance, ESCO continues to offer not only a machine, but a complete customer solution by delivering a turnkey service that will include the tested and optimised tooling, machine, programs and start of production.

New rules to account for leases – are you ready for the 2022 financial statements?

The FASB’s new leases standard (Topic 842) has been adopted by all public companies reporting under US GAAP. Meanwhile, the mandatory effective date for all other entities is rapidly approaching and is mandatory for all companies with a December 31, 2022 year-end.

If you have leasing contracts in place (e.g. a warehouse, offices, a forklift, a copy machine etc.) with terms greater than 12 months, you need to account for these leases under the new standard. In the past, these were off balance sheet.

What does this mean for your 2022 financial statements? You will need to:

    •    Identify which operating leases you have that may need to be recognized
    •    Calculate right-of-use (ROU) asset and a lease liability for all leases
    •    Incorporate new journal entry routines that used to be off balance-sheet
    •    Consider new disclosures related to leasing
These changes have to be applied starting from January 1, 2022. Therefore, if you accounted for the usual rent expense like in prior years, these entries have to be corrected to conform to the new standard.

Rödl & Partner USA is happy to guide you through these changes. We have experience with the new standard and are happy to share our knowledge, set up all required calculations and provide a template including all details and journal entries that you will need to post.

Please reach out to Stefan Duerscheid (Stefan.duerscheid@roedlusa.com) for further questions and help with this topic!

75th Anniversary Celebration in Switzerland/IMTS Show Participation

American Lamprecht team members gathered in Switzerland to celebrate Lamprecht’s 75-year
anniversary.

During the month of September, the location managers from American Lamprecht’s 9 United States Branches gathered in Basel, Switzerland to celebrate the 75-year anniversary of the company. The US team was hosted by Lamprecht Transport Ltd. CEO Jenny Vargas-Lamprecht and Chairman Thomas Lamprecht.

The trip and celebration marked an additional milestone for American Lamprecht and Lamprecht team members traveling and attending company meetings that were disrupted by Covid.

“It was great to get the US and Swiss team together. We have not been able to meet for several years,” said Patrick Imhof, COO of American Lamprecht and Liaison with Lamprecht.

“It was nice to be able to attend IMTS in person again since 2018 due to Covid. The turnout was amazing, it was great to visit existing and potential clients and see what they do.” said Delia Smutny, American Lamprecht Sales Manager.

Additional travel and meetings were held in Chicago as the American Lamprecht team then hosted Lamprecht Transport Ltd. CEO Jenny Vargas-Lamprecht at the IMTS show. American Lamprecht is a consistent sponsor of the Swiss Pavilion at the show.

PERIPHERAL VISION
For machine tool peripherals, it’s LNS, then all the rest.

Peripherals, by definition, are an outer boundary. But at LNS, that boundary is where we put our focus. Because here’s the secret—with LNS peripherals on their side, our customers are able to turn their attention to what they do best:  making chips and making money.  That’s why we do what we do.

Five product categories and industry-best expertise means no company on earth can match the passion and vision we have for machine tool peripherals.

We design, build, and stand behind every high-pressure coolant system, bar feeder, chip conveyor, steady rest system and mist collector we sell – we know every model inside and out, we stock replacement parts, and local support is just a phone call away

LNS offers 14 different bar feeders for fixed or sliding headstock machines that accommodate bar diameters from 0.8 mm to 120 mm, many with automatic or no-tool-required quick changeovers

LNS ChipBLASTER high pressure coolant systems provide precise high-pressure force to allow cutting tools to operate at higher speeds and reduce tool wear

eConnect Ethernet communications system that enables data exchange between CNC machine controls and peripherals to reduce material waste and speed production

LNS Turbo chip conveyors handle all chip and material types – models include magnetic and self-cleaning models that filter out 500, 250 or even 50-micron particles

All models of LNS Fox mist collectors exceed OSHA and NIOSH requirements, eliminating oil/coolant mist, smoke and other fine aerosols and particulates

Steady-rest based workholding systems are custom designed and built to address each specific machining application
